This piece, for baritone soloist and cappella choir, is a setting of a sonnet by John Keats. The soloist sings the sonnet from beginning to end. The first quatrain is accompanied by the choir with a setting of one word from the poem. The choir is then subdivided twice, one per quatrain, culminating with three SATB quartets singing settings of three different words before the concluding couplet. Each of these words provide an emotional frame through which I want the soloists words to be understood.
