Clifford Gagliardo is a composer and photographer currently studying at Bath Spa University. He was born in southern California to a multicultural family. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Music Composition in 2009. He has also worked as a photographer in Los Angeles and Berlin.
Clifford’s music and photography attempts to transport audiences and viewers away from the anxieties brought on them by unfettered capitalism. Clifford worked toward this area first by writing pieces that were idiomatic to the instruments to hand, as in his Brass Quintet (2007). In Clifford’s most recent piece, Kipple (2019), the fundamental nature of the piece is determined by the nature of the musician’s bodies and how they work together, reflecting their needs in opposition to needs imposed by external market forces.
